Diabetes Education, Programs and Classes


Your Key To Diabetes Self Management
A four-session small group class on managing diabetes. Classes, taught
by certified diabetes educators and registered dietitians, are two hours
in length and meet twice during the week. Before attending a class,
participants meet one-on-one with an educator for assessment.

Day classes: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 - 3 pm on July 14, 15, 21, 23
Evening classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 6 - 8 pm on August 18, 21, 25, 28

Your Key To Diabetes Management provides a comprehensive overview of
diabetes, how it affects your body and recommendations for exercise and
other activities. Your instructors will explain how you can control
blood glucose levels with meal and exercise plans and make healthy
choices whether you are eating at home or out with friends. This program
offers a supportive group environment that can provide the motivation
and inspiration you are seeking in learning to live with diabetes.

Diabetes Exercise Program

A six-week program for people with diabetes to learn how to exercise safely and improve their diabetes control.  Taught by an Exercise Physiologist, who is a Certified Diabetes Educator, the one-hour class sessions run on a rolling admission; participants can enroll at anytime

The daytime and evening diabetes support groups will resume meeting in September.

Nutrition Class for Diabetes

Weekly at 8:30 am or 3 pm

The group session is open to anyone with diabetes - newly diagnosed, out of control, or people just in need of a refresher. It is a one and a half hour session. All participants are provided with a meal plan and are seen for an individual follow-up one month after the class.  The classes are taught by certified dietitians and diabetes educators.

Pump Club

The Pump Club is a free support and education club with discussion for anyone either on an insulin pump or interested in going on an insulin pump and learning more. No registration is required. Come and meet with other “pumpers” to share, discuss and learn.

Meetings are held at New Englnad Sinai Hospital several times a year.

Weigh Less Programs - for Youth and Adults

Sinai offers two healthy weight loss programs - one for children ages 10 to 16 and one for adults who want to lose and manage their weight.  The classes focus on eating healthy and good nutrition. Participants learn the importance of lowering fat content; food pyramid use; sensible exercise program. Classes include education and individualized eating and nutrition guidelines, behavior modification techniques, exercise planning, label reading, heart-healthy guidelines for shopping, eating and cooking, dining out guidelines and strategies to maintain weight loss.

Classes are taught by a registered dietitian and both weight loss programs run for 6 consecutive weeks.

Tuition is $120 for 6 weeks.

Diabetes Support Groups

Provides support and education to adults with diabetes. There is an evening group that meets once a month on a Monday. Attendance is free and the meetings are open to all people with diabetes.

Second Monday of each month

The diabetes support group will resume meeting in September.
