Overview of Services
Sinai's specialized speech-language pathology services include treatment in the following areas:
Aphasia
a language problem often resulting from stroke
Cognitive/communicative deficits
impairments in thinking, reasoning, and problem solving
Stuttering
disruptions in the fluent production of speech which affect overall communication
Laryngectomy
surgical removal of part or all of the vocal cords requiring training techniques to compensate for the loss of voice
Delayed/disordered language
communication problems which can have a significant effect on the development of language and learning
Dysphagia
swallowing problems which often occur as a result of a neurological event or progressive disease
Voice disorders
problems resulting from improper or inefficient voice production
Articulation disorders
decreased or impaired ability to produce speech sounds correctly
Using state of the art techniques, treatment is provided in both individual and group sessions. Treatment is enhanced by:
- family observation and education
- community re-entry activities
- participation in educational planning
- computer assisted activities
- augmentative devices
- team approach to treatment
