PRESS RELEASE

NEW ENGLAND SINAI HOSPITAL GETS TOP SCORE IN PATIENT SATISFACTION

STOUGHTON, MA  According to Press Ganey Associates, Inc., a company that measures and reports hospital patient satisfaction, New England Sinai, a long-term acute care hospital, ranks in the 99th percentile for patient satisfaction. When measured against other long-term acute care hospitals, Sinai scored highest by providing superior service and compassionate care to patients and their families. The first quarter Press Ganey report ― January through March 2008 ― confirms that Sinai is exceeding patient expectations across a wide range of criteria, from the quality of meals, to the friendliness of nurses, to the amount of time physicians spend with patients.

“The high ranking reflects the collective efforts of all Sinai employees to improve patient satisfaction at the hospital. Though we constantly strive to deliver comprehensive and exceptional pulmonary and complex medical care, we never forget that our patients are people who deserve to be treated with tender loving care, compassion and respect. We have remained true to our founding mission to treat patients as family, and I am delighted that our efforts have been recognized,” said Lester P. Schindel, President and CEO of Sinai.

According to Mary Beth Urquhart, RN, MBA, CPHQ and Vice President for Quality and Decision Support Systems at Sinai, the high ranking from Press Ganey means that Sinai’s patients have an overall level of satisfaction that is greater than 99% of participating long-term acute care hospitals, nationwide. “We are exceeding expectations across the board, and this validates our staff’s commitment to excellence in care. Each department in the hospital has focused on the measurement and improvement of patient satisfaction, and has worked hard to provide a positive hospital experience for each patient and their family.

The importance of patient satisfaction in the overall long-term, acute care hospital experience has never been more important. The staff at New England Sinai Hospital share a belief in, and are dedicated to, the principle that all patients, employees, physicians and visitors deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and courtesy.
