“Planet Mikey,” made its debut on December 15, 2005 on Sports Radio WEEI 850 AM. Mike Adams, then a regular contributor to the station, got the gig after a bold act of defiance during which he locked WEEI host Glenn Ordway out of the studio. Adams barricaded himself in the studio shortly after 6 pm refusing to yield the microphone until Program Director Jason Wolfe gave him the job and announced that Mike Adams was going to take over as permanent host of the night-time slot from 7 pm to Midnight. Planet Mikey reaches all of New England every week night. The program is tightly run by acclaimed producer Jason Pothier who has no problem handling the insanity that is the Planet Mikey Show.
Adams’ launched his radio career in his late teens. He began at WINF in Manchester, CT in 1973 and two years later went to work at WPOP in Hartford and WRCQ. After various stints at WMAS, WHYN & WAQY in Springfield, MA, WLOB Portland, ME, and WCCC & WHCN, Hartford, Adams made his television debut in 1985 at WFSB TV in Hartford. His outstanding talent earned him his own show, “Sports World,” at Boston's NECN from 1992 to 1998, which earned him three Emmy Awards and Boston's Best Sports Anchor for two consecutive years. Adams also hosted shows for Classic Sports Network in New York City and WFXT Fox 25 Boston.
