For more information, please call 781- 297-1231. Reservations made by May 26, 2009 are appreciated.

The “Let’s Talk About Stroke” Panel will provide useful information, resources and tips for those seeking help in dealing with the challenges and frustrations commonly experienced after a stroke. There will be a question and answer session. Sinai has been caring for patients who have experienced stroke and other complex illnesses for many years and these experts can definitely help patients and their families live better after a stroke.

A stroke occurs when blood and oxygen flow to the brain is interrupted by a blood clot or a broken blood vessel, which kills brain cells in the immediate area, often causing physical and emotional disabilities, including speech problems, memory loss and paralysis.

Rehabilitation is an important part of recovering from a stroke.  Through rehabilitation, patients relearn or regain basic skills such as speaking, eating, dressing, and walking.  The goal is to improve function to become as independent as possible. Rehabilitation actually starts in the hospital as soon as possible after a stroke. In patients who are stable, rehabilitation may begin within two days after a stroke has occurred, and should be continued as necessary after leaving the hospital.

New England Sinai Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Program is accredited by the CARF Stroke Specialty Program (CARF, the International Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). This inpatient specialty accreditation makes Sinai unique among rehabilitation services providers in Massachusetts.
