PRESSURE ULCER AND CHRONIC WOUND MANAGEMENT (AN EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR RNs AND LPNs)

STOUGHTON, MA —  New England Sinai Hospital is hosting a program for registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) entitled, “Pressure Ulcer and Chronic Wound Management on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Brenner Conference Center at the hospital located at 150 York Street in Stoughton, MA. (Registration and continental breakfast served at 7:30 am)  Program instructor, Vivian Seide Sternweiler, MS, RN, CWCN, Coordinator of the Wound Care Program at Sinai, will discuss risk factors associated with pressure ulcer development, interventions to reduce the risk of pressure ulcer formation, factors to consider when choosing a dressing, benefits of moist wound healing and the importance of nutrition in relation to wound healing. Tuition for the program is $100.00 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. (group rate of $75 per person for groups of three or more from the same institution) Registration is requested by April 27, 2007. The care of patients with pressure ulcers and chronic wounds has changed dramatically over the past decades, however it still remains extremely challenging.  And although in treating these conditions, a cure cannot be guaranteed, a thorough assessment of a wound, knowledge of the treatment approaches available, and the choice of product and approach can significantly improve the chance of a positive outcome.  To provide nursing professionals the most up-to date information concerning chronic wound care assessment and treatment, Sternweiler has over 20 years of experience in providing expert wound care consultation for patients with hard to heal wounds. Prior to joining the Sinai staff, she served as a medical/surgical clinical nurse specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and ran her own nursing education and consultation practice in which she lectured nationally on wound management. Sternweiler has a bachelor of science in nursing degree from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science degree in acute medical/surgical clinical specialty from Boston College.  She is certified as a wound care nurse through the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board and holds a legal nurse consultant certificate from Northeastern University.  She has also authored numerous journal articles and nursing continuing education courses.
